The Fight To Make The Football League Empty The Fight To Make The Football League

on Thu 28 Mar 2019, 1:39 pm
The clubs in the Vanarama conference have 6 to 8 games left of the season.
What it means is that the bottom half of the league won't be coming up automatically as there is only one definite automatic promotion spot. Currently Leyton Orient hold that and are two points clear of second place with 2 games in hand. To make matters worse for the chasing pack is that they are the only team in that division who have won all five of their last league games.
You wouldn't bet against them keeping that spot but it isn't guaranteed. The fight here is for the play off places where the next six (second to seventh) get in. Solihull Moors, Salford City and Wrexham all look like they are almost going to be in there which would leave 3 more spaces. who finishes where though will be interesting this season as second and third will get a bye round while 4th play seventh and 5th play sixth with the winners then facing second and third to sort out the play off finalists.

They will all want it as Football League status means an awful lot so there will be a scrap over the final games to get in the fight to come up.

The Fight To Make The Football League Empty Re: The Fight To Make The Football League

Now all teams have played 40 or 41 games meaning they have either 5 or 6 games left. What it means is that now only from Gateshead in 9th can mathematically achieve automatic promotion by winning the league. Realistacally you would have to believe it is still just the top four with a chance on the top prize as it is

  1. Leyton Orient Pl 40 Pts 77
  2. Salford City Pl 41 Pts 46
  3. Solihull Moors Pl 41 Pts 45
  4. Wrexham Pl 41 Pts 72

Orient still hold the box seat with a game in hand but after losing at the weekend to Bromley and drawing with Barnet before that they have now let the chasing pack close up.

The play-offs look like the three of the top four plus three more. No mathematically anyone from 13th up could still get there but in all likelihood the three will come from the next four or five behind the top four. It should become clearer over the next two games.

check back and we will keep you informed of the race to make the Football League.

Looks like it's Orient. Three points ahead with one game left. Need a big win by Salford or really big defeat by Orient in final games to alter it.
