National League North Midweek Games Round-up

on Thu 11 Aug 2016, 11:51 am
taken from league website....

County won 3-1 at Bower Fold against neighbours Stalybridge Celtic, who had won their opening fixture.

A goal in first half injury-time by Courtney Meppen-Walter put the visitors in front.

And, despite conceding a Jimmy Ball goal in the 65th minute, further goals from John Marsden after 72 minutes and substitute Josh Amis 10 minhtes from time sealed the Hatters win.

Harrogate Town, FC Halifax Town, Brackley Town, Tamworth, Altrincham and FC United of Manchester are all also yet to taste defeat in 2016/17.

Harrogate beat a Boston United side yet to pick up a point.

The Pilgrims were beaten 2-0 at the CNG Stadium, courtesy of goals from Dominic Knowles 3 minutes before the break and Lloyd Kerry on 69 minutes. Relegated FC Halifax came back from behind to draw 2-2 at The Shay against Altrincham, who came down with them at the end of April.

Altrincham took a 28th minute lead with a well struck shot by James Lawrie from the edge of the box.

But the lead lasted just 4 minutes. The ball rebounded off an Alty clearance and ran back to goalkeeper Andrew Dawber, who elected to kick it out for fear of being penalised for handling a back pass. From the throw, David Moyo's cross came in and the Alty keeper attempted to push it over the bar but the ball dropped down for Tom Denton to poke home from virtually on the goalline.

Jake Moult netted from the spot to make it 2-1 to the visitors in the 52nd minute.

But Halifax staged a late rally and equalised when former Alty man Jordan Sinnott struck 7 minutes from time.

Relegated Kidderminster Harriers were brought down to earth by Brackley as they made a losing start to their home campaign.

Goals for James Armson after 36 minutes and Alex Gudger on 74 minutes ensured the Reds tasted their first defeat of the season.

Tyrell Waite pulled one back from the spot 3 minutes later, but Harriers could not find a leveller.

Jack Lane scored a late winner for Tamworth at The Lamb against Worcester City.

Lane smashed home the only goal of the game just 9 minutes from time.

But City will be ruing missing a number of chances in the second half.

FC United made it two draws from their opening matches after sharing a goalless draw at Broadhurst Park against an AFC Telford United outfit who lost last weekend.

Alfreton Town recorded their first win against a Gainsborough Trinity side who drew last Saturday.

But the Reds stormed into a 2nd minute lead through former Notts County striker Craig Westcarr.

And they never really looked back after that, doubling their advantage just 4 minutes later through Dan Bradley.

Skipper Bradley added a third after 32 minutes and Sam Smith made it 4-0 with 5 minutes of normal time remaining.
